the snake itself is not poisonous but carries the poison in a sack in the body. the snake only strikes when forced to do so. the poison can be used for healing and for killing therefore having a poweful capacity for good or bad. the snake can lead people to knowledge and wisdom; wealth and prosperity. it can also lead them down the path of danger, self destruction and unexpected happenings. the snake periodically sheds its skin; always painful this can lead to changes of the mind, emotions and intellect. the snake can represent the evolving human consciousness. a symbol of rebirth and transformation. It links to the kundalini shakti the latent power within us.
